Settling In Procedure for Children

We at Pitta Patta aim to ensure that your child’s introduction to our setting is as stress free as possible.  We aim to achieve this by inviting you and your child to visit the nursery prior to your child’s official start date.  We offer a week of settles free of cost to our parents and children to help children familiarise themselves with the setting, the nursery staff and the other children.  We believe a week experience provides the opportunity to give their journey at Pitta Patta a trial run.

A child who is tense or unhappy will not be able to play or learn properly, so it is very important for parents/ carers and staff to all work together to help the child feel confident and secure in the group.  This may take longer for some children and parents/carers should not feel worried if their child takes a while to settle in.  You must be prepared to accept that it may take some time for your child to adjust to the nursery but very few children fail to settle in eventually.  We find that staying with your child and then leaving him/her for a short period eases the separation process.  Please remember, the more your child comes and experiences activities on offer and sees you interacting with staff, the more settled he/she will feel.  To see our recommended programme to introduce your child to life at Pitta Patta pleases refer to the settling in procedure at the bottom of this document.

In the unlikely event that your child does not seem to settle here at Pitta Patta we will review the situation with you and discuss the options, including possible termination of the contract.  Such termination of the place will only be at the sole discretion of the nursery manager.

Day 1: 10.00am - 11.00am   We suggest that you stay with your child and spend two hours in the Nursery setting.  This will normally be enough time for your child’s first day.

Day 2: 10.00am - 11.30am    You will be invited to accompany your child for one hour in the appropriate room.  All being well you will be encouraged to leave your child for one full hour during this time to see how well they manage on their own.

Day 3: 10.00am - 12.00pm   By day three, your child may be ready to stay by themselves for the whole of the morning session and be collected after lunch at 12.00 pm.  Do not be concerned if this is not the case some children arrive on day one as if they have been coming to Pitta Patta for years, but others take a little longer to settle in.

Day 4: 10.00am - 2.30pm      We recommend that your child stays by themselves and be picked up after sleep.

Day 5: 10.00am - 4.00pm      We recommend that the child stays by themselves and be picked up after tea.
